The ZEISS Promotion Fund
Commitment to education and research
Since 2011, the ZEISS Promotion Fund has enabled non-profit associations, institutions and organizations to receive funding for projects and initiatives that align with ZEISS' values and goals. The aim is to promote educational measures, scientific projects and institutions. In addition, selected social and cultural initiatives and institutions are supported at company sites in Germany.
For ZEISS as a foundation-owned company, sustainability is firmly ingrained in the corporate strategy, and the focus is on generating sustainable added value for society. As part of this strategy, ZEISS is making an important contribution to the common good through the Promotion Fund, especially as it supports educational measures as well as scientific projects and institutions.
Insights into the funding activities
The ZEISS Promotion Fund at a glance
Two pillars of the ZEISS Promotion Fund
The ZEISS Promotion Fund structures all the ZEISS Group's support activities and is divided into two pillars: The ZEISS Site Fund and ZEISS Science Fund.

The ZEISS Site Fund
The focus of the ZEISS Site Fund is on promoting projects and initiatives that strengthen STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) for children and young people. Projects in the areas of culture, social affairs, amateur sports and the environment are also supported.
The ZEISS Site Fund was established on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the reunification of the company in East and West in 2011. The funding was originally limited to regional projects at the main sites of Oberkochen/Aalen and Jena but has been expanded to include the locations in Göttingen, Wetzlar, Berlin, Braunschweig, Dresden, Munich and Roßdorf. Sites with at least 200 ZEISS employees are eligible for funding.

The ZEISS Science Fund
The second pillar of the ZEISS Promotion Fund is the ZEISS Science Fund, which focuses on science and research-related activities. Unlike the ZEISS Site Fund, which supports regional projects at the main sites in Germany, the ZEISS Science Fund provides funding regardless of site and funds transregional projects.
At the heart of the ZEISS Science Fund are initiatives to promote scientific and research-related activities in STEM subjects. The focus is on the fields of natural science and engineering, particularly optics and photonics.

-
Recipients of funding are usually non-profit associations, institutions, organizations and initiatives.
Political parties and organizations and people close to them, religious purposes and professional sport are not eligible for funding.
Individuals are generally excluded from funding. Similarly, no loans, credits or guarantees are granted.
Only in exceptional cases can student groups and also individuals be funded by the ZEISS Science Fund – provided that the funding request is accompanied by a corresponding recommendation from a university or the funding is provided as a sponsorship.
-
Funding applications are only accepted online via www.zeiss.de/foerderfonds. The ZEISS site in Berlin, Braunschweig, Dresden, Munich and Roßdorf are exceptions. At these sites, the measures and projects are proposed for funding with the ZEISS Site Fund by the respective ZEISS site management.
The description of the project should not exceed the scope of an A4 page. In addition to the project description, this should contain a schedule and a cost and finance plan including details on the applicants own means and co-financing on the part of other donors.
Applications can be submitted throughout the year.
In the event that funding is granted, by submitting the application, the applicant is obliged to provide representatives of ZEISS with information about the funded project in a brief report and to explain the funded project and the allocation of resources.
-
First, submitted applications will be checked for completeness to see if they meet the eligibility requirements. Decisions as to whether or not to fund an application will usually be made within three months. The applicant will be notified about the decision.
If the application is approved, the funds will be made available promptly, usually immediately and in the full amount. For co-financing, the sponsorship amount will only be paid out if total funding can be guaranteed. Once the applicant receives their funding as a donation (i.e. upon receipt of payment), they should send an official confirmation of receipt of funding for tax deduction purposes (Zuwendungsbestätigung) to the address given within four weeks.
No explanation will be given for rejecting funding applications. There is no legal claim to funding.
