A Toolkit for Logistics

Julia develops the tools that are used to produce high-precision optics. Specifically, she visualizes processes and refines data. Julia is a software developer, and she specializes in applications and analyses for the production environment at the ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology segment. Her fluency in C# means she has the processes down pat.
Julia started out her ZEISS career with a role in EUV coatings – a high-tech area where several coating layers are applied to mirrors and lenses with atomic precision. As a process engineer, she initially worked in production, where she developed a budding passion for programming.

From shop floor to back office

"I've come to realize that writing software is my calling. I wanted to develop my skills and ZEISS enabled me to do so and to assume the relevant tasks. I work closely with my engineering colleagues and get the chance to contribute my ideas."
The trick to this doesn't just lie in meeting the relevant requirements, but in integrating her ideas into the existing architecture. This requires a team effort, which sees her working with colleagues in production and in IT. So, Julia has developed the skills to take on a varied job: "I initially did everything in Excel, but now I speak C# almost perfectly. And I wasn't just thrown in at the deep end, either. My path to becoming a software programmer was a process, one in which I was assigned ever more programming tasks."

I've come to realize that writing software is my calling. I wanted to develop my skills and ZEISS enabled me to do so and to assume the relevant tasks.

"It's important that I keep developing. That I'm able to keep re-programming myself, if you will. And ZEISS gives me the freedom to do that. This is definitely the right platform for me.

Julia, software developer

From science to high-tech application

Julia is a born scientist. She opted to study physics due to the discipline's incredibly diverse research potential. She wrote her theses on photovoltaics, and subsequently worked as a process engineer at a medium-sized company. So, joining ZEISS meant a shift to a new dimension: "At first it's quite overwhelming to move from a medium-sized company to a global tech player. But my colleagues certainly made my transition an easy one," says Julia.

So what does Julia hope to achieve? In her own words: "It's important that I keep developing. That I'm able to keep re-programming myself, if you will. And ZEISS gives me the freedom to do that. This is definitely the right platform for me."
