Tratamiento de cataratas maduras: cuando la rutina se convierte en un desafío

Eliminar cataratas maduras puede ser difícil incluso para los cirujanos de cataratas más experimentados. Los pacientes suelen ser de edad avanzada y tener poca agudeza visual, además de otras patologías oculares1,2.
En este caso, es esencial obtener una comprensión detallada de las afecciones subyacentes del paciente y prepararse para los posibles desafíos durante la cirugía. Además, informar al paciente sobre su afección es fundamental para gestionar las expectativas2,3.
Si se detecta un problema en la retina antes de la cirugía, se trata de una afección preexistente (es decir, el paciente tiene el problema). Si se detecta el problema después de la cirugía de cataratas, se considera una complicación de la cirugía y esto nos obliga a realizar un diagnóstico preoperatorio.
