- Nei pazienti oncologici le metastasi cerebrali sono la forma di tumore intracranico più comune e rappresentano una delle maggiori cause di morbilità e mortalità.1
- Per il trattamento viene normalmente utilizzata la radiochirurgia stereotassica (SRS) ma, poiché questa porta spesso alla necrosi da radiazioni per le metastasi cerebrali più grandi, il livello di dose è limitato e il volume di trattamento viene solitamente ridotto con la chirurgia di debulking per consentire alla SRS di erogare una dose adeguata.
- La radioterapia intraoperatoria (IORT) potrebbe essere un’alternativa di trattamento, ma finora non sono disponibili raccomandazioni di dosi standardizzate.
