- Nos pacientes oncológicos, os tumores malignos intracranianos mais comuns, responsáveis por uma morbilidade e mortalidade significativas, são as metástases cerebrais.1
- Para o tratamento, utiliza-se normalmente a radiocirurgia estereotáxica (SRS), mas como esta conduz frequentemente a necrose por radiação em metástases cerebrais de maiores dimensões, o nível de dose é limitado e, na maior parte dos casos, o volume de tratamento é reduzido com uma cirurgia de redução de volume para permitir que a SRS administre uma dose adequada.
- A radioterapia intraoperatória (IORT) pode ser uma alternativa de tratamento, mas até à data não estão disponíveis recomendações de doses padronizadas.
