Proactive Wear Measurement By Means Of Tool Measurements
The challenge
Tools used in production wear out over time. At some point, their wear becomes apparent in changes to the geometry of the produced parts. For this reason, the tools should be checked regularly to ensure that such deviations do not occur.
The solution
Users can digitize the tool using an ATOS system: The active surfaces are scanned in 3D directly on site in production—without having to remove the tool from the press. The measurement data is then compared with the CAD data set for the tool.
This way, it is possible to very quickly determine the extent to which the tool has already been worn out. And where there will potentially be changes in the geometry of the parts. This kind of proactive wear control also helps to improve maintenance planning. Result: The service life of the tool is increased.
