ZEISS VMR Virtual Simulation

Real environment in a virtual simulation

The virtual measuring room (VMR) is the central control and measurement planning software for all elements of the optical 3D measuring machines. It represents the real environment in a virtual simulation. It consists of a robot with one sensor, the programming, including the kinematics of the robot paths, the part and the measurement plan. With ZEISS INSPECT Optical 3D or ZEISS INSPECT Airfoil, the VMR enables automatic measuring procedures to be executed. Thanks to the VMR, the user does not need any special robot skills. All robot movements are simulated in the virtual measuring room before execution and checked for safety.

Your benefits

  • Smart Teach

The Smart Teach function in VMR computes the required sensor positions for all inspection characteristics and CAD surfaces. The subsequent path optimization improves the order of the positions regarding runtime and collision avoidance. Smart Teach minimizes the time required to create process-safe and runtime-optimized robot programs. The system automatically updates measurement positions if the CAD or individual elements change.

  • Inspection Planning

The CAD data set is imported together with the corresponding measurement plan. The measuring principles stored in the measuring plan are automatically assigned to the inspection characteristics from the measuring plan. The measurement report can also be prepared in advance (offline). The real measurement results can be displayed after the measuring procedure. This makes it easier for the user to plan the inspection.

  • Burn-in

The measuring programs are created offline and then run once in the ScanBox by an automated process. The robot moves to the measuring positions and determines the individual measuring parameters such as exposure times on the real part. Using a special process, the software automatically detects part reflections and adjusts the fringe projection accordingly to avoid measurement errors caused by reflections.

  • Series measurement

Final measuring programs can be used to inspect further parts. The robot is completely controlled by the software and moves through the measuring positions one after another. During each measurement, the system checks whether the results meet the quality criteria. Changes in the data status from the CAD or the measurement plan can be quickly updated with the parametric software.

  • Inspection

After data acquisition, the software computes a polygon mesh of the part surface and the actual values of the inspection characteristics plan. This data is compared with the target data and displayed in a report. The measurement results can be automatically saved in special export formats, e.g. for databases for statistical quality control. The measuring procedure for different parts can be carried out automatically.

  • Kiosk Interface

The Kiosk Interface is a special user interface for simplified operation of the ScanBox. The software takes over the entire process control and executes the measurement and inspection sequence automatically. This ensures high accuracy and data quality: Measurement parameters, data and operating system are protected.
