ZEISS Bosello WRE thunder is the 2D X-ray solution for identifying defects reliably and quickly on the production line. The system checks a wide range of wheel models and detects deviations from predefined norms and specifications.

This allows to start inspecting immediately and idle time is kept at a minimum.

Fast scanning for high throughput

The pass-through concept of the system allows fast exchange of the wheels in less than 2.5 seconds. With the clever coordination of the four doors – two on the inside and two on the outside – the X-ray source can run continuously. This allows to start inspecting immediately and idle time is kept at a minimum. Even if different wheels need to be processed, the Automatic Wheel Identifier system recognizes the model, loads the corresponding test program and finds the right alignment for the scan process without disturbing the cycle of production.

Its compact design with a footprint of only 5.8 m², ensures easy placement and integration into existing production lines. Moreover, it offers customizable features such as interface signals for seamless connection with an existing conveyor line, and a bespoke rejection unit of defect parts to meet your specific requirements.

The easy-to-use software with quick image acquisition allows for fully automated 2D X-ray inspection and evaluation in compliance with ASTM standards.

The easy-to-use software with quick image acquisition allows for fully automated 2D X-ray inspection and evaluation in compliance with ASTM standards. Non-conforming defects are reliably detected and classified thanks to the in-house FARIS software, so that imperfect parts are automatically ejected from the production line. At the same time, all information about the inspected castings is documented in one database, which ensures complete traceability in production.​

ZEISS BOSELLO WRE thunder is designed for continuous use in the production cycle and enables reliable and automated inspection of 100% of all wheels produced. Optimally synchronized components ensure fast and safe transport of the rims, reduce vibrations and achieve high accuracy with short scanning times.

Automatic alignment

The source and detector, which are not mechanically connected (C-arm), are perfectly aligned through software control. This method optimizes component positioning during the scanning process, reduces vibrations and resulting in higher accuracy.

Secure grip

Individually driven and motor-controlled rollers not only ensure a strong and secure hold for high-speed and accurate 360° inspection, but also allow for safe and automatic gripping of the rims without the need for any lifter. These rollers guarantee precise positioning of the wheels during the scan process and prevent misalignment, a feature that remains effective even with untreated cast wheels.

Guaranteed stability

The proprietary high-voltage generator guarantees a high kV stability through an electronic control system that compensates possible fluctuations and micro-interruptions on the main supply line in real time. Management and protection functions in the control electronics, ensure proper X-ray tube operation, as well as an extended operation life.

Safe transportation

The internal conveyor system is provided with extremely robust multiple chains to guarantee safe transportation of heavy wheels up to 26” and 50 kg

Software-controlled evaluation

The in-house developed ADR (Automatic Defects Recognition) software reliably detects defects on the inside of wheels and automatically rejects defected wheels.​ With Zeiss Inspection Review, scan images can be reviewed remotely by a central operator. The device can be used for line monitoring in real time or work offline based on the information in the database. It is simply connected to the network via Ethernet and can control up to 8 devices, even if they are located in different plants.​
