    Planetarium Freiburg

    The Freiburg Planetarium is the successor to the planetarium in the Richard Fehrenbach Trade School, which was initiated by Richard Fehrenbach in 1975. Since 2002, the new planetarium has been located at the northern end of the main railway station in the former Ufa-Palast. It is the largest planetarium in southern Baden.

    The ESO Supernova Planetarium & Visitor Centre is a state-of-the-art astronomical centre for the public. The heart of the ESO Supernova is a planetarium with modern projection technology and the latest visualisation technologies. The ESO Supernova is the world's first open source planetarium. The materials are available to other planetariums around the world free of charge under a Creative Commons licence.

    After the old planetarium was destroyed in the 2014 flood disaster, the city of Halle decided to rebuild the planetarium. State-of-the-art planetarium technology can now be found in the city's former gasometer. The SKYMASTER ZKP 4 star projector from ZEISS is complemented by a digital all-dome system consisting of six ZEISS VELVET LED projectors.

    The ‘House of Astronomy’ is a special centre for astronomical education and knowledge transfer. The centre on the Königstuhl aims to bring the fascination of astronomy to the general public and schools. The centre of the building is the inclined dome, which serves as an auditorium with a ZEISS VELVET fulldome projection.

    The first planetarium projector was a gift from VW to the city of Wolfsburg on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. On 16 October 1996, the ZEISS STARMASTER, the first of the new generation of medium-sized planetariums with fibre-optic projectors, made its debut. At the beginning of 2010, the optical-mechanical projection system was supplemented with the VELVET digital all-dome system. A modernisation to six ZEISS VELVET LEDs took place in 2023.

    With almost 300,000 guests a year, the Torun Planetarium is one of the most visited planetariums in Europe.     The city of Yaroslavl built the first new planetarium in Russia since the end of the Soviet era. The cultural and educational centre consists of a planetarium, an observatory, a space museum and exhibition areas.     In 2011, the Charles Hayden Planetarium was reopened after extensive refurbishment with a STARMASTER projector. The planetarium, which is visited by around 200,000 guests a year, including 20,000 schoolchildren, has expanded its educational mission in recent years. After New Orleans, Boston is the second city in the USA with a ZEISS STARMASTER planetarium.

    The star of the planetarium shows is ‘Carl’, the M 1015 star projector. Although the projector was installed in 1987, it looks practically new and still works very well. The William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College is considered one of the best-kept secrets in Champaign, Illinois. It is the second largest planetarium in the state.

    The planetarium in Kenner is often referred to as the city's most attractive cultural institution. Classic planetarium shows, large-format films and laser shows can be experienced in the tilted dome. The planetarium is named after Louis J. Roussel, Jr., a businessman from New Orleans.
