Dark Universe
Structure and history of the universe
About this Show
The Hayden Planetarium's new astronomy show "Dark Universe" captivates with its outstanding visualisation of mysterious cosmic phenomena and leads us to a better understanding of the structure and history of the universe and our place in it - ultimately also to new frontiers of our research.
The starting point of the journey through the universe is 100 million light years away from Earth. After the flight to our home galaxy, the Milky Way, presented on the basis of the latest scientific data, the journey leads to our planet. We arrive at the Mount Wilson Observatory in California, where Edwin Hubble's discovery of the expansion of the universe provided the first clues to the Big Bang. Astronomers have since uncovered baffling new mysteries. What is the mysterious dark energy that leads to the acceleration of cosmic expansion? What is the invisible dark matter in the galaxies, which together with dark energy makes up 95 per cent of the total mass and energy of the universe? What lies beyond our cosmic horizon?
Dark Matter explores the new age of cosmic discoveries with exceptionally vivid imagery based on authentic data, revealing the mysteries of the universe that have yet to come to light.
