The ZEISS segment Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology (SMT) has donated €45,000 to the St. Josef Children's Village in Bopfingen-Unterriffingen (Southern Germany). The amount is the result of the fundraising campaign by the SMT Worker’s Council, during which ZEISS employees donated either on-site or online. This resulted in a total donation amount of over €21,000, which was increased by the SMT management team to reach €45,000. The amount was presented to the St. Josef Children's Village in Bopfingen-Unterriffingen on March 5.

Safe environment for vulnerable children and young people

The St. Josef Children's Village provides a safe and protected place in a rural setting for vulnerable children and young people who have experienced violence in their lives. In addition to intensive educational and psychiatric services, there are also outpatient and inpatient services, a regular kindergarten, and a special educational center. The Children's Village will specifically use the SMT donation for the education and support of the children and young people.

“The annual donation campaign has a long tradition, and I greatly appreciate the generous willingness to donate from all my colleagues at SMT,” says Artur Franzke, Deputy Chairman of the ZEISS SMT Worker’s Council in Oberkochen. “Children and young people are our future – and the St. Josef Children's Village plays a crucial role for young people who have not had the opportunity to grow up in a protected environment.” Dr. Jens Werner, HR Manager of ZEISS SMT and a member of the Management Team added: “We are very pleased to be able to help children and young adults easing their difficult start in life with this donation. The result of the donation is simply fantastic, and it shows that SMT employees have big hearts. I am proud that we always keep the people in focus and take on social responsibility as a company.”
