ZEISS Vision Care Launches New Frame and Lens Disinfecting Technology
San Diego / CA / United States | 25 September 2020 | ZEISS Vision Care
ZEISS Vision Care US recently announced the launch of the ZEISS UVClean technology, an optometry-specific UV-C disinfecting device designed especially for eyecare professionals and developed in conjunction with Voxelight, LLC. ZEISS UVClean is now available for pre-ordering on a first-come-first-served basis to eye care professionals in the US and Canada.
As the eyecare industry emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, eyecare professionals must adhere to strict hygiene protocols which places pressure on their ability to serve the same number of patients that they used to see before the outbreak. The ZEISS UVClean is a beautifully simple, fast, and compact device that thoroughly disinfects 6-10 pairs of eyeglasses of all sizes and shapes in as little as 40 seconds. At the push of a button, the device leaves the eyewear disinfected and ready for the next patient.
Most current solutions for eyeglass frame hygiene come with a wide range of challenges and drawbacks. Problems generally include: time, size, cost, or sheer inconvenience. For example, standard “soap & water” cleaning is slow and labor-intensive. Furthermore, frames may not be sufficiently dry for immediate use on patients. Alcohol-based solutions or even hydrogen peroxide can potentially damage frames over time and come with a distinctive and unpleasant smell. Meanwhile, most re-purposed industrial and consumer UV-C boxes are either too costly, too bulky, or would never fit in a dispensing area. Alternatively, the ZEISS UVClean is a safe, fast, compact and aesthetically pleasing desktop unit that will easily fit into almost any eyeglass dispensary. The ZEISS UVClean device uses just the right amount of concentrated UV-C light that won’t damage eyeglasses with normal use, keeping frames and lenses disinfected, dry and ready for the next patient. With the ZEISS UVClean, practices can now balance hygiene and patient care without having to make any compromises.
“The launch of ZEISS UVClean addresses an urgent need within the industry,” said Jens Boy, president of ZEISS Vision Care North America. “After COVID-19 hit, we quickly noticed that frame and lens disinfecting has become a major drag on productivity in eyecare dispensaries. Most improvised solutions involve liquids, chemicals, smells and potentially create a lot of waste. Meanwhile, most UV-C disinfecting devices are either repurposed medical or industrial cabinets or else basic consumer electronics boxes. In stark contrast, the ZEISS UVClean is specifically designed from the ground up to help eyecare practices spend less time cleaning and more time engaging with their patients.”
