Frequently Asked Questions
ZEISS Trail Cameras
Why does the Secacam 3 no longer have an SD card, and how do I retrieve the data from the camera?
The ZEISS Secacam 3 no longer uses an SD card for storage but offers a user-friendly way to transfer your images and videos via a USB-C port. If you want to manually copy your media to an external device, simply connect a USB-C stick (formatted in FAT32) to the USB-C port on the bottom of the ZEISS Secacam 3 and select the "USB Transfer" menu option. You have three different transfer methods available:
- Folder Selection: The ZEISS Secacam 3 will display the media folders available on the camera's internal memory. The camera automatically creates a new folder after 1,000 captured media items, which are sorted by the date of capture. Navigate using the arrow keys to the desired folders, mark them for download with the "PLAY" button, and start the download with the "OK" button. Wait for the download to complete and then remove the stick.
- Date Selection: Use the arrow keys to select a time period and confirm your choice with the "OK" button. All images and videos captured during this period will now be transferred to the USB-C stick. Wait for the download to complete and then remove the stick.
- All Folders: If you choose this download method, all data from the camera's internal memory will be transferred to the USB-C stick. Please note that this can be very time-consuming.
WARNING!
The more data you copy at once from the internal memory of the ZEISS Secacam 3 to an external device, the longer the copying process will take.
How are the images taken by the trail camera transmitted to my mobile phone?
With the ZEISS Secacam 5 and ZEISS Secacam 7 4G-enabled trail cameras, you receive your recorded images and videos directly on your mobile phone via the ZEISS Secacam app. With conventional models, the storage media e.g. the SD card must be collected manually and evaluated on a PC, for example. Thanks to the modern LTE module with integrated multi-roaming SIM card, the camera can dial into the mobile networks of a wide range of providers and automatically selects the best network available at the location where it is installed. In this way, the images are transmitted directly to your end device via the mobile network without additional roaming charges. With the ZEISS Secacam app, you can view your images clearly in the gallery on your device, activate direct notifications, set profiles and much more.
What are the differences between the respective service plans?
Attractive and fair price structures are available for the ZEISS Secacams 5 & 7. You can choose between a prepaid service and various service plans that you can cancel monthly without any conditions. Where can I book my service plan?
The various service plans can be conveniently booked and paid for via the ZEISS Online Shop.
Is there a price saving if I have several cameras in operation?
With ZEISS you save hugly when operating multiple trail cameras. Starting with the 4th ZEISS trail camera, you will receive a 30% discount on the service plans for all your cameras.
What are the optimum recording ranges for the different ZEISS Secacam models?
The optimum recording range is determined mainly but not exclusively by the field of view of a trail camera. The Secacam 5 and 7 have 60° while the Secacam 5 Wide-Angle features a 100° field of view. For general wildlife observation, a range of 5-15m is usually optimal. For nesting or feeding ground monitoring purposes, a shorter range between 0,35-5m proofs sufficient.
