With the Global Birding Weekend, the international organization "Global Birding" calls on people all over the world to explore native birds in their environment on 17 and 18 October 2020 and to share their observations on the platform eBird. ZEISS Employees and Brand Ambassadors will be participating in this global event to raise awareness for the work of bird conservation organizations to an even wider audience and to contribute to their funding.
Together with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, a long-term cooperation partner, ZEISS offers selected awards for participation over the Global Birding Weekend. Every participant submitting five eligible checklists on eBird on October, 17th has the chance to win one of two ZEISS Victory SF 32 binoculars, the high-performance binoculars especially for ambitious birders.
The event is multi-faceted and has the objectives of building a global community who is passionate about nature and record as many bird species as possible and log them into eBird virtually. Share your observations via sketch, phone or camera with the global audience. Every species counts – from the most common to the rarest, each bird is as important.
Ornithologists, birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts from all over the world are participating for the ZEISS Team, such as Ambassadors from the US including Melissa Penta, Jon Cormorant, Catherine Hamilton and Luke Tiller. The ZEISS Nordics team will be strongly present including Christian Cederroth and the Falsterbo Observatory Team around Stephen Menzie from Sweden as well as the ZEISS Arctic Redpolls William Velmala und Roni Väisänen. ZEISS ambassador Toby Carter is representing the UK team. The Southern Team Reservoir Birds from Spain committed themselves to take part in this initiative as well as Noam Weiss and the team from the International Birding and Research Center in Eilat, Israel. ZEISS employees Rich Moncrief (USA) and Petra Kregelius-Schmidt (Germany) will be participating, too.
All donations made during this weekend will be made available to BirdLife International's bird conservation projects to stop the illegal bird trade in Asia.
