Crisis management@MED

In order to address the global developments surrounding the coronavirus, several task forces were formed at ZEISS to define measures and recommendations for the protection of all employees worldwide and to maintain business operations. MED Service also worked on this together with the country organizations – during this process, world maps were created which, using a traffic light system, clearly illustrate the access of our service organizations to our customers.

ZEISS COVID-19 Taskforce

The ZEISS COVID-19 Taskforce was established at group level at the beginning of the calendar year when the new type of coronavirus was detected and started to spread. The taskforce's objective was to define the action needed to protect all staff wherever they were in the world and to maintain the group's business operations.
The central taskforce based its work on official sources and recommendations, for example in Germany the taskforce took the statements issued by the Federal Government and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) as its starting point. This central taskforce is working closely in a network with the segment taskforces.

Several specific taskforces were set up by ZEISS Medical Technology, some of them focusing on the country (e.g. Germany and the USA), some of them focusing on a particular site (e.g. Guangzhou and La Rochelle), but all with the objective of developing specific rules in keeping with the regional or local situation. The MED taskforces are all networked together and members of the MED G5 management team are closely involved via Steering Groups. These taskforces, too, draw their information from reliable sources, for example the Robert Koch Institute for information relating to Germany.
With the objective of examining the particular challenges facing staff in the sales and service areas, further taskforces were formed with the remit of developing strategies to support our customers and their patients as well as maximizing support for staff in the various areas and protecting them against possible infection.

The pandemic over time

World maps reveal MED Service status and the development of device installations

One of the main focal points of Andreas Frei's countless update calls with the heads of Service around the world was the world maps being created on the basis of information provided by the SSC’s. The maps, which Frei and team have been working on and updating continuously since mid-March 2020, have been distributed within the company to provide quick orientation with regard to current developments.
The world maps use a traffic light system to clearly indicate the situation at the global level and in the individual countries.
